Taking Ma & Pa to their old house in Chicago for the first time in 40 yrs. Just a block down from Will’s Northwood’s Inn on Nelson. They were shocked to see that it’s still there (albeit with major additions and renovations). This is where they started raising the first three of six children before moving to Door County when they realized they wanted more kids, but not a life in the suburbs. “I didn’t want to commute, not even 10 minutes,” my Dad said. “When we moved to this house I said I would never own a car.” If they were going to have more kids, they were going to need more house. Dad left his job with the City of Chicago, Mom put nursing on hold, and they started repairing and selling boats in an old lumberyard in Egg Harbor, Wis. They hadn’t been back to the house since.
